Depending on the game, some of the visuals do pop out of the screen, and there's a lot of depth to the point where you're tempted to reach into the game. However, this effect works only if you're staring at the right angle; otherwise, it will look distorted. The games we saw were designed to keep you in the sweet spot, although spectating friends might not be treated to a great show.
From our observations, the new version of Mario Kart looks particularly sharp. The karts and characters are as detailed as what you would find in Double Dash, and the 3D effect added to the items makes them pack even more of a punch. Flying around in Kid Icarus looked incredible. The clouds drift right into your eyes, and the enemies pop off the screen.

The 3D image has perhaps a little less background depth than the current cutting edge of stereoscopic 3D, but the beauty of 3DS is that the effect is greatly enhanced by the simple fact that you're holding it. Objects in the foreground, suspended between your hands, assume a reality they wouldn't projected on the far side of the room. You feel as though you can touch them.
The 3D works noticeably better with bright, colourful images (good thing it's a Nintendo machine, then). Dark, high-contrast scenes produce slight "ghosting" - like an imperfect analogue TV signal - that is a bit distracting, although it far from ruins the overall effect.

The company didn’t talk about how its stunning technology works during Tuesday’s brief demo for members of the press. But work it does: Without using special glasses, you can see a deep, rich 3-D display on the top screen of the new Nintendo 3DS portable.
You can only see the 3-D effect if you’re looking at the 3DS screen straight on, although there’s a good amount of fudge factor there — you can move the unit around quite a bit and still get the effect.

What we saw was only a demo, but even so the 3D visuals looked impressive enough to give gamers a reason to pick up a dedicated handheld console.

Mi sento sollevato a leggere queste cose!
