Sorpresa alla Gamescom 2022: non solo giochi, ma anche lotta alla pirateria!

Il famoso tool antipirateria Denuvo sarà disponibile in versione Switch per gli sviluppatori che decideranno di aumentare la protezione dei propri titoli, in particolar modo contro l'emulazione su PC.
Denuvo è largamente sfruttato nel mondo PC, ma negli ultimi anni la sua implementazione ha coinvolto anche i titoli su console.

The announcement comes as the video gaming industry is gathered for this year’s Gamescom, currently taking place in Cologne, Germany.

Nintendo consoles have long suffered from piracy issues and the Switch is no different. Even if a game is protected against piracy on its PC version, the released version on Switch can be emulated from day one and played on PC, therefore bypassing the strong protections offered on the PC version. By preventing piracy on Switch while blocking unauthorized emulations on PC, studios are able to increase their revenue during the game launch window, which is the most important period in regard to monetization. The Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection will ensure that anyone wishing to play the game has to buy a legitimate copy.

As with all other Denuvo solutions, the technology integrates seamlessly into the build toolchain with no impact on the gaming experience. It then allows for the insertion of checks into the code, which blocks gameplay on emulators.

The most popular groups have more than one million followers each. Recent research conducted by Irdeto in collaboration with Omdia found that 84% of game developers are continuously concerned about tampering and piracy. The study also found that 93% of those using anti-cheat and anti-tamper solutions are satisfied with the protection and value brought by game protection technologies.

Nintendo ha quel mix curioso tra mentalità cutting edge e 200 anni indietro.

Senza stare a discutere sulla questione pirateria, emulazione legale, etc, questa è l'ennesima mossa che andrà a penalizzare il consumatore mentre il pirata medio avrà assolutamente zero problemi.
Denuvo è famoso per causare una perdita di FPS nei giochi CPU heavy e il SoC della Switch non è mai stato particolarmente performante lato CPU. L'emulazione per Switch è già in buono stato e la perdita di fps non andrà in alcun modo a pesare a chi ha un pc più o meno moderno.

Non ne sarei tanto sicuro. Abbiamo già una piattaforma ridicolmente facile da piratare, ed è Android. Di conseguenza la gente pirata giochi da pochi euro così tanto che, a citarne uno, il 95% dei download di Monument Valley sono frutto di pirateria. Giusto o sbagliato, sono statistiche che fanno inorridire tanti sviluppatori e investitori. E se il mio gioco potrebbe essere il prossimo Monument Valley? E se la mia console potrebbe esserlo? Non mi sorprende che l'84% degli sviluppatori intervistati si dice preoccupato per la pirateria. Il Nintendo DS era così bucato che non era per niente raro sentire discorsi del cavolo dalle persone che dicevano "i giochi del DS non li compro perché non valgono 40€". Sono statistiche che fanno preoccupare chi è dall'altra parte e non ha i videogiochi come semplice hobby.

Secondo un rappresentante di Denuvo, sembra che Nintendo non c'entri nulla con questo DRM, ma che la richiesta sia partita da altre aziende. Non penso che vedremo questo tipo di DRM in giochi Nintendo.
